Meet the Dairyland Seed Family - Kim Mayne

BY Dairyland Seed

Kim Mayne is Dairyland Seed’s Operations Leader and works at the Western Customer Service and Distribution Center in Mt. Hope, WI. In his role as Operations Leader, he leads the distribution, supply chain, and quality assurance activities as well as the examination and evaluation of the corn inventory. In addition, he is the Site Leader for the Mt. Hope location and serves as a member of the Dairyland Seed Leadership Team.

This past January, Kim celebrated his 40th anniversary with Dairyland Seed. In those 40 years he has served many roles: Warehouse Manager, Shipping Manager, District Sales Manager, Site Leader and Production Manager. He enjoys the seasonal aspect of working in the seed industry – every year is a new beginning.

“Throughout my career, the most enjoyable part is the people that I am associated with. I work with a great bunch of people who are very dedicated in doing the right things to keep our customers satisfied and part of our team,” says Mayne. “The other part of what makes this job very enjoyable is meeting and dealing with our customers. Our customers are fun, innovative, stewards of the land, and dedicated to American agriculture.”

Prior to joining Dairyland Seed, Kim worked for Kussmaul Hybrids from 1973 until 1981 when Kussmaul was purchased by Dairyland Seed.

In 2019, Kim Mayne was honored to receive the Tom Strachota Leadership Award. This award is presented annually to one person in the Corteva Multi-Channel Seed brands who demonstrates a legacy of outstanding performance over a career. Kim says, “I was honored to receive the Tom Strachota Leadership Award in 2019. Tom was a dear friend, great leader, wonderful family man, and he was an inspiration to everyone that worked with and knew him.”

“Kim is an individual who is invaluable to our organization. His experience in the seed business, from growing and conditioning seed to managing the overall operations, has earned him an image of respect and admiration in both Dairyland Seed, and the industry as a whole,” said Ryan Mueller, Product Portfolio and Agronomy Leader.

Born and raised in Mt. Hope, WI, Kim grew up on a small farm where the family raised beef and hogs. Kim has been in and around the seed industry his entire life. As a teenager, he would rogue and detassel seed fields, bale hay, and cut weeds out of seed oat fields.

An avid history buff, he is eager to learn about all aspects of history – both world and U.S. from books such as the Bill O’Reilly series to the History Channel, he absorbs it all.

When he’s not working, Kim is reading books, gardening, and spending time with the grandchildren who range in age from 1 year old to 16 years old, but his favorite pastime is fishing. He shared his enthusiasm for fishing with his kids and fond memories were made on their family vacations fishing on Lake Winnibigoshish. His fishing partner these days is his wife, Tanya, who shares his love of fishing. Weekends on the boat fishing on the Mississippi River can get a little competitive and Tanya sometimes out-catches him!

Kim resides with his wife Tanya in Mt. Hope, WI. Their three married sons and eight grandchildren live in various Wisconsin locations.
