Introducing Dairyland's Seeds Summer Intern

BY Dairyland Seed Agronomy Team

Dairyland Seed would like to welcome Beau Shultz, our Agronomy intern for 2024.  She will be assisting with data collection and documentation at the Wabash, Indiana PAR (Product and Agronomy Research) location. Her main duties will include stand counts protocol implementation, crop ratings, measurements and various research-related work.

Beau Shultz, 2024 Agronomy Intern

One of the internship program's goals is to nurture an interest in agricultural careers. Every week, Beau will experience a different career pathway available within Corteva Agriscience, or an aspect of agriculture. This will include visits to the Corteva Windfall crop breeding and research station, Corteva Indianapolis headquarters, and the Purdue University Crop Diagnostic Training Center. She will also learn from Dairyland Seed regional agronomists, district sales managers, and product development specialists at Corteva Agriscience.

Beau lives in Wabash County, Indiana and will be a junior at Northfield High School. She has had a passion for agriculture since she was a young girl tagging along with her dad on the farm, whether it was working ground, planting or laying drip irrigation tape. She has been involved in FFA, 4-H and will be attending Heartland Career Center’s Precision Agriculture Program in the fall.

Beau has gotten immersed in the R&D plots on her farm in the past few years. In 2023, her grandfather and dad contracted her to conduct a Corn Emergence Flag Study at their Wabash Research Farm. This required her to place over 1,500 flags in one plot and study the emergence. The project accelerated her interest and excitement in agronomy opportunities for the future.

“I am excited about my part-time summer internship with Dairyland Seed. I will spend most of my summer working at the Shultz Farms LLC Research Center in Wabash for both Dairyland Seed and my family for Research Execution & Data Collection,” says Beau. “I also work part time at Advanced Ag Resources, Inc. If we are caught up on all the work, you can catch me sneaking away to the lake and wake surfing with my family and friends.”

The Agronomy Team boasts that one of her biggest accomplishments may be her 2023 Grand Champion Dairyland Seed DSR-2562E™ brand soybeans at the Wabash County fair!
