5 Quick Questions: Mark Gibson

BY DAIRYLAND SEED

In this 5 Quick Questions feature, we head over to the eastern region to speak with Dairyland Seed Regional Agronomist Mark Gibson. Prior to becoming an agronomist and joining Dairyland Seed in 2021, Mark served for four years in the United States Marine Corps.

Where do you call home?

Home for me is New Haven, Indiana.

How long have you been an agronomist?

I have been a Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg) and Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) for seven years.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

My favorite part of being an agronomist is working with customers and dealers to help them select and place our excellent products in ways that will optimize success. I also enjoy working through any agronomic issues that may arise throughout the season, solving puzzles and providing growers with cost-effective solutions.

How has your military background helped you in your role?

“Adapt and overcome” is a common adage in the Marine Corps. This mindset has proved useful many times when it comes to navigating the constant needs and challenges our customers face.

What’s one piece of advice you have for farmers right now?

Fields in northeast Indiana, northwest Ohio and southern Michigan have experienced a lot of variability this year due to environmental conditions, but it is important to note this crop still has a tremendous amount of potential because our products have been bred and tested to handle these kinds of environmental stresses. It has been impressive to see how resilient our products have been this year.

If you have questions heading into harvest, don’t hesitate to contact your Dairyland Seed regional agronomist. They are here to answer any questions and make sure you are in the best position to have a safe and successful harvest.
