5 Quick Questions: Jake Wolter

BY DAIRYLAND SEED

For the next feature in our 5 Quick Questions series, we spoke with Jake Wolter, the new Dairyland Seed Marketing Communication Specialist. Jake started with Dairyland Seed on May 30, and we wanted to take the time to properly introduce him by sharing more about his background and passion for agriculture.

Where are you from?

I am from Bellevue, Wisconsin, a town just outside of Green Bay.

What roles did you have before joining Dairyland Seed?

Previously, I worked for marketing and advertising agencies specializing in helping agriculture clients. I was everything from a writer, project manager, to a business strategist. I worked with animal nutrition companies, crop protection companies and equipment manufacturers. I have been lucky to see work on both the livestock and crop production sides of agriculture.

How did you become connected to agriculture?

Agriculture has always been in my backyard. Many of my neighbors were farmers, and so were a few of my friends. After high school, I went to culinary school to become a chef. I found out the hours and the salary weren’t what I wanted, so I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study journalism with the intention of being a food writer. After graduating, a friend convinced me to use my experience and perspective to write about how food was grown and produced. I’m glad I took his advice because I have been working in agriculture for over a decade now.

What aspects of agriculture are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about weed and disease management. I was part of the team working with Corteva to launch the Enlist® Weed Control System in the U.S. It is crazy to see the impact pest pressure can have on yields.

What’s your favorite thing about working at Dairyland Seed so far?

The people at Dairyland Seed have been the best. They are funny, smart and welcoming in a way that has been inspiring. It gives me a lot of energy going into work.

We’re very excited to have Jake on the Dairyland Seed team, and we can’t wait to see everything he will accomplish in this role.
