WATCH: Do Water Temperatures Correlate with Soil Temperatures? – Part One

BY DAIRYLAND SEED

In this video Brian Weller, Dairyland Seed western region agronomist, records the water temperature to see if it correlates with regional soil temperatures. He also discusses what water temperatures and ice conditions tell us about potential upcoming planting conditions. Weller explains that after the ice starts to break away from the shoreline, it will leave the lake in two to 10 days. Once the ice starts to leave the lake in a short period of time it is generally a good indicator that the soils in that area are fit to be worked.  Learn more about ice-out dates and spring preparation from Part Two and Part Three of this video series.
