Treatment Options Defend the Genetic Potential in our DSR Soybean Lineup

BY Rod Moran, Regional Agronomist

Understanding the functionality and reliability of countless seed treatment options within the industry is a complex and ever-changing quest. This is exactly what the Corteva Center for Seed Applied Technologies (CSAT) delivers to assist Dairyland Seed DSR soybean genetics to lead in the marketplace.

Fungicides, insecticides, nematicides, biologicals, and multitudes of other products that CSAT investigates continually starts with the farmer in mind to help improve their managerial productivity and profitability. This rigorous process is driven by discovery of new products, formulation science, and real-world testing of products that when combined provide consistent efficacy insuring Dairyland Seed’s LumiGEN® soybean portfolio will stand up defensively to fungal, insect, and nematode challenges farmers face today while helping meet their yield and ROI expectations.

Dairyland Seed proudly offers four different treatment packages for the 2024 planting season. All four feature our proprietary LumiTreo™ backed by Lumisena® offering which provides an unparalleled experience in a multi-fungicide seed treatment package. Focusing on control of phytophthora, fusarium, rhizoctonia and phomopsis, and providing suppression of pythium from early planting through primary vegetative development is what helps this product shine. Lumisena™ is the foundational showcase and its best-in-class protection against the nation’s number one early fungal soybean pest, phytophthora, which has been evidenced very well the last several years within broad scale and Dairyland Seed testing.

Data from the Crop Protection Network (*) indicates that just in the last five years within the Dairyland Seed footprint just under 20 million bushels have been lost to early season phytophthora root and stem rot. Wouldn’t you like to keep the thief at bay and retain some of those lost bushels on your farm? I believe you know the answer. In addition, Dairyland Seed treated products feature proprietary L-2030 R combo bio-stimulant / bio-fungicide allowing for even more robust fungal protection while enabling improved root growth allowing for increased soil exploration early in the season improving yield potential next fall. All LumiGen® Premium FST orders include the above exceptional defensive protection.

Early season planting increases pesky soybean insects which can be addressed can be by selecting our FST/IST option. In higher OM soils, reduced and no-till acres especially, a proven insecticidal component is a commitment to creating a healthier stand. Imidacolprid insecticide provides seed corn maggot, soybean aphid, and bean leaf beetle protection early in the season.

Should you want/need inoculant (by the way, inoculant is always good insurance for N production) on your order, we have that option as well with our FST/IST/INOC selection. Please note, inoculant treated products will ship after March 1, 2024.

For those early planted or acres where drainage or field history lend to increased SDS and/or SCN, place your seed orders as the FST/IST/NST package option. Dairyland Seed only uses the high rate ILeVO on our products insuring the best efficacy for our customers.

Comparing the various ten (10) Mode of Action (MOA) contained within in our treatment packages, our LumiGEN offering provides on average of two (2) additional modes of actions across the five major soybean diseases versus our two primary competitors offerings. Utilizing more modes of action allows Corteva and Dairyland Seed to implement the most current best management practices available to stave off selection resistance allowing for improved sustainable farming practices.

All Dairyland treated seed or qualifying treatments purchased through the Dairyland Seed Downstream Treatment Program are covered by our 100% replant protection policy.

  • Deciding or Choosing a Nitrogen Rate
As we are in or just getting done with many hunting seasons, asking an Agronomist to pick a Nitrogen (N) rate for your corn crop is akin to a asking a hunter what his or her favorite weapon to hunt with is. The answer in both instances is probably “well it depends.” As an Agronomist, before recommending a nitrogen rate, I typically ask several questions. It’s often said that the number of questions I might ask is comparable to the number of inquiries new parents make when consulting a physician about their child. Before suggesting an N rate, I have considered the following background information and questions:
